Listening and Caring Skills Conference
Developing Ears that Hear and Hearts that Care
(Formerly known as Lab 1 as developed by Dr John S Savage)
Trainer: Margaret Slusher.
President LEADPlus
The January, 2005 issue of
Fortune Magazine reported businesses are beginning to
use trained listeners to reduce absenteeism and worker
turnover, a problem which costs companies over 300 billion dollars
each year in the US.
What church leader doesn’t know about absenteeism and church member
turnover?
Church leaders have discovered the key to getting, assimilating and
keeping church members is developing and sustaining healthy
relationships. The key to building great
relationships is in learning to listening and creating “stickiness.”
Here’s what researchers
have said:
▪
In a 2005 report released by Group Publishing, Inc. and Gallup Poll,
98% of church members who indicated that they were "very satisfied"
or “somewhat satisfied" with their church described their church as
very friendly, maintaining good relationships. (Michael Lindsay,
Creating a Culture of Connectivity in Your Church, Loveland,
California: Group Publishing, Inc., 2005, p.8)
▪
In work done by Dr. John Savage and others, researchers discovered
more than 75% of inactive church members could be re-engaged in
the life of the church through the application of good listening
and caring skills
The key to this is to develop good listening skills which is the
purpose of this two part conference (Level 1 can be taken by itself
but to take Level 2, one must have completed Session 1).
